Taking Advantage of Grant Opportunities1/27/2009 TAKING ADVANTAGE OF GRANT OPPORTUNITIES Intelagard equipment has been designed for fire suppression, decontamination, and hazmat remediation. Department of Homeland Security grants as well as fire grants have been used to purchase the equipment. This is a brief overview for making the most of your grant submission efforts. Information regarding a variety of grants may be found by visiting the websites listed below. www.firegrantshelp.com www.ojp.usdoj.gov/odp/about/overview.htm www.ojp.usdoj.gov/odp/docs/bulletins.htm www.ojp.usdoj.gov/odp/grants_programs.htm www.fema.gov/government/grant/index.shtm www.firegrantsupport.com www.firegrantsupport.com/prog/grantsmgt www.firstresponder.gov/Pages/Default.aspx www.rkb.us Whether you are applying for an ongoing federal grant program or other type of grant, consider these strategies: Intelagard equipment is designed for fire suppression, hazmat remediation, and decontamination. One system for all three hazards is a cost effective solution. Read the grant application carefully and write to get your ideas down. Don’t worry about editing in an early stage. Make it easy for the reader to identify what they are reading. Relate equipment features to the goal of the grantor. Show them the “big picture”. Clearly spell out facets important to the review process. Write to explicitly convey ideas. Be very clear, assume the reader doesn’t understand. Do your homework. Use actual numbers such as population served, expected growth and development in the area, and any other factors to support your position. Although it may seem obvious, the proposal or application should be neat, clean and easy to read. There should be no typographical errors in the final copy. Don’t use extravagant language. Remember that you are offering the funding source an opportunity to participate in an important, useful transaction. Avoid unsupported assumptions. Be sure to fully complete the application before it is submitted. |
