Every Merlin handcart/ Macaw backpack comes equipped with a standard smooth- bore nozzle. It is designed to project a straight foam stream a distance of 35 to 40 ft. (11 to 13 m).
The smooth bore is suitable for situations in which the operator wants to keep as much distance as possible between him or herself and the hazard, or when the area to be treated is difficult to reach.
Examples would include spot decon, decon of high or hard to access areas, fully involved car fires, or situations requiring operators to maintain a safe distance from the hazard. It is also well suited to penetrating into fabrics, carpet and accumulated dead vegetation such as leaves and pine needles.
Coverage depending on type of foam used varies from 1 to 5, to 1 to 25+. Foam Types: Decontamination Formulas, Class A, AFFF, AR-AFFF, A/B foam, Protein foam, Hazmat Agents.

This nozzle/tip combination lays down a pattern roughly three feet wide (1 m) when used at a distance of ~4 feet (1.3 m) from the target surface. It is ideal for quickly covering large surface areas.
It is also well suited for applying decontamination agents. The nozzle has been designed to apply a roughly ΒΌ" deep layer of decon foam with a single pass, allowing the foam to properly hang for maximum agent kill effectiveness.
In structural fire situations and cases where arson investigation is needed, the fan spray tip is excellent for mop-up and overhaul as the fan stream does not destroy vital evidence.
Average coverage per 5-gallon fill is ~40 square meters.
Foam Types: Decontamination Formulas, Class A, A-FFF, AR-FFF, A/B foam, Hazmat agents.

The medium expansion nozzle creates a large bubble, aspirated foam. It is well suited for vapor suppression, creating wet zones where significant foam depth is required, and filling an interior space to prevent vapor generation and bury hazardous materials quickly for rapid decon.
It can also be used for fire overhaul and mop-up when there is suspicion of arson.
NOTICE! When using this nozzle, turn the wetter foam/drier foam adjustment (on the control panel, bottom center) all the way to the "wetter foam" setting. This will insure excellent quality foam as well as maximizing the air and water resources in the pack.
You will only throw the foam roughly 6 - 10 feet, but will be able to generate large volumes of foam quickly. Most foam types can be used with this nozzle.
Foam Types: Decontamination Formulas, Class A, AFFF, AR-AFFF, A/B foams

The piercing nozzle is designed for reaching deep-seated areas that are inaccessible by normal means. Once the two rubber coated handles are tightened onto the stainless steel wand, the piercing nozzle can be forcefully hand driven through metal, glass, or sheetrock.
It is important to grip the nozzle by the handles and not the handset gun when driving the nozzle through surfaces. It is ideal for applying decon agent into inaccessible areas, extinguishing car fires, fires inside walls, hay bales and mattress fires etc.
The Piercing nozzle will throw a straight stream of foam for a distance of ~35 feet.
Foam Types: Decontamination Formulas, Class A, AFFF, AR-AFFF, Protein based foam, A/B foam

The hazmat nozzle is adjustable from a side cone pattern to a straight stream, and is best suited for applying non-foaming agents and solutions designed for decon uses, bio-remediation and hazardous materials cleanup.
If plain water or other non-foaming media are being used in the Merlin or Macaw, the hazmat nozzle can be utilized for heat protection by adjusting the stream to a cone pattern.
When adjusted to a straight stream, the nozzle will project foam as well as non-foaming agents up to 35 ft. (11 m).
